Need Small but Reliable? Meet ProMation’s PZ Electric Actuators.
Not every automation application requires a large, high-torque actuator. For compact quarter-turn valves and dampers, selecting the right actuator means balancing size, performance, and reliability. That’s exactly where ProMation PZ Electric Actuators excel.
Available in PZ6 (55 in-lbs) and PZ15 (135 in-lbs) torque models, the PZ Series is designed for space-constrained installations while delivering dependable on/off valve automation across a wide range of industries.
Built for Compact Installations
The PZ Series was engineered for applications where mounting space is limited but reliable valve control is essential. Both models feature a compact housing with an ISO 5211 F03/F05 mounting pattern and a 14 mm double-square female drive, making installation straightforward on many quarter-turn valves and dampers.
To withstand demanding environments, the PZ Series is housed in a NEMA 4/4X enclosure, providing protection against rain, washdown conditions, and corrosion in many industrial settings.
Available supply voltages include:
- 24 VAC
- 120 VAC
- 230 VAC
PZ Electric Actuators are offered exclusively as on/off (two-position) actuators and can also be used in bump/jog applications. Because these actuators are optimized for simple automation, options such as auxiliary switches, heaters, and proportional control cards are not available.

Choosing the Right Torque
Selecting the proper actuator torque depends on the valve size, operating pressure, valve type, and application requirements.
The 55 in-lb PZ6 is commonly used on smaller quarter-turn valves, typically from ¼-inch to 1½-inch depending on valve design. Typical applications include:
- HVAC systems
- Water filtration equipment
- Reverse osmosis systems
- Chemical dosing skids
- Beverage processing
- Laboratory equipment
- Irrigation systems
- Compressed air systems
- Small OEM machinery
- Fuel transfer skids
The 135 in-lb PZ15 provides additional torque for larger valves or applications requiring higher shutoff force. Common applications include:
- Municipal water treatment
- Wastewater lift stations
- Cooling water systems
- Food and beverage processing
- Chemical processing
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Packaging equipment
- Building automation
- Marine systems
- Car wash equipment
The PZ15 is also well suited for 1- to 2-inch bronze or stainless steel ball valves, small butterfly valves, utility water systems, fuel transfer skids, and OEM equipment installed on commercial vessels.
Why Engineers Choose Compact Instead of Oversized
For many valve automation projects, oversized actuators add unnecessary cost, weight, and installation challenges. Compact actuators like the PZ Series provide several practical advantages:
- Small footprint for confined spaces
- Lower power consumption
- Faster operating speeds
- Cost-effective valve automation
- Reduced weight on piping and equipment
- Torque matched for smaller quarter-turn valves
With a rating of up to 1,200 motor starts per hour, the PZ Series is also well suited for applications requiring frequent cycling.

Simple Installation and Operation
Installation and operation are designed to be straightforward. The actuators may be mounted in either an upright or horizontal position; however, they should never be installed with the top below the horizontal plane.
To maintain the enclosure’s NEMA 4X protection, a ¼-inch PF conduit gland must be used during installation. Proper wire sizing is also important to ensure reliable actuator performance and long service life.
Unlike many larger actuators, the PZ Series requires no mechanical stop adjustments, simplifying setup and reducing installation time.
Each actuator also includes a manual override tool. The manual release mechanism protects the motor during manual operation, allowing technicians to safely position the valve whenever electrical power is unavailable.
Reliable Automation for Your Applications
When your application calls for dependable quarter-turn automation without the size and complexity of a larger actuator, the ProMation PZ Electric Actuators provide a practical solution. Their compact design, durable environmental protection, and simple on/off operation make them an excellent choice for OEM equipment, water systems, HVAC applications, industrial processing, and many other small valve installations.
